The Capital of Denmark, beautiful Copenhagen is the country’s largest city and second largest in Scandinavia. It has a metropolitan area population of 2 million inhabitants and is located on the eastern coast of Zealand across the sea from Malmö Sweden.

It was founded on the 10th century as a Viking fishing village and became Denmark’s capital on the 15th century.

Today it is a thriving city with lots of attractions and a cultural and economic center of Northern Europe.

Since the completion of The Øresund Bridge, as road, railway and tunnel project linking it with Malmö, the whole area of Denmark and Sweden have been integrating as one known as the Øresund Region.

Kastrup, Copenhagen International Airport is the busiest and largest in Scandinavia.

The Little Mermaid

Located at Langelinje Pier is one of Copenhagen’s top attractions. She turned 100 years old in August 23, 2014.

Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, it is mad of bronze and granite.

Famous brewer Carl Jacobsen was so inspired by the fairy tale that he commissioned sculptor Edvard Eriksen to create a statue of the mermaid. Eriksen’s wife posed for the sculpture of the Little Mermaid.

This is a summer place. It is recommended to spend a day strolling the place, eating in one of the cozy restaurants and have a beer from a local shop.

At some point it was a busy port where ships from all over the world would dock. The area was always full with sailors, ladies of the night, pubs and beer houses.

Today the houses of Nyhavn have been remodeled and classy bars and restaurants dominate the old port.

Nyhavn has been the home of many famous Danes, such as Hans Christian Andersen, who wrote there some of his fairy tales.

This is our favorite spot in Copenhagen, the Capital of Denmark. Europe’s longest pedestrian mall is the center of shopping in this capital.

Here you’ll find many stores, some of them budget friendly shops offering world’s most renowned brands. It runs for 1.1 Km from City Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv.

It is famous for offering internationally known brands like Prada, Louis Vuitton, Mulberry, Hermès and Hugo Boss. Also more budget oriented shops as H&M, Vero Moda, Weekday and Zara.

Besides shopping, Strøget offers a few of Copenhagen’s attractions such as Church of Our Lady, where the Crown Prince and Princess were married; the court house at Nytorv Square and the Stork Fountain at Amagertorv Square.

Amalienborg Palace

Considered one of the top works of Rococo architecture, it was built in the 1700s.

It is made up of four identical buildings, Christian VII’s Palace, used as guest residence; Christian VIII’s Palace, used as guest palace for Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte; Frederik VIII’s Palace, home of the Crown Prince family; and Christian IX’s Palace, home of the Queen. In the middle of the palace square there is a statue of King Frederik V from 1771.

Don’t miss the Changing of the Guards at the palace. Every day they march from their barracks through the streets of Copenhagen and end up at the Amalienborg, where the changing of the guards is performed at 12:00 noon.

Located a few minutes’ walk from City Hall and the Central Train Station, this is a world famous amusement park.

Its wooden roller coaster is now 100 years old. It will be fully remodeled with two mountain tops of 26 and 20 meters high.

It has a waterfall that gives you a feeling of being in the mountains. It has also some film screenings during summers, taking place at the Plænen in Tivoli.

Tivoli has attractions for adults, young crowd and even the youngest of children.

There all kind of different activities according to the season of the year, including Christmas in Tivoli.

The new facilities have much better conditions for all animals and the humans have a better access to all the fascinating animals on display.

The Copenhagen Zoo has more than 3,000 animals from around the world and a total of 264 different species.

Regardless of the weather outside, a hot humid climate awaits you inside the rain forest where you come across with snakes, crocodiles, hornbills and exotic birds and butterflies.

This is a great experience for families with small children, visiting this fabulous Capital of Denmark.

The National Museum

Denmark's National Museum in Copenhagen is a must visit. It features exhibitions of the Stone Age, the Viking Age, the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Modern Danish History.

It is located in the Prince’s Palace, which is no longer used by the Royal Family.

It consists of a wide corridor that links rooms and sleeping quarters, and features plenty of space for exquisite handicrafts. The stucco in the ceiling, the panels and the oak parquet floor are all thought to be original.

It has a huge permanent collection of classical near eastern antiquities, a coin and medals collection and a toy museum.

The Children’s Museum is a section dedicated only to young visitors with displays such as: “How was the school of your great-grandmother?” or “Try a trip on a Viking Ship”.

This is Denmark’s largest art museum, featuring admirable collections of Danish and international art from the past seven centuries.

Sometimes they offer temporary exhibitions like painters as Picasso or Bob Dylan.

The U.L.K Art Labs, is where kids can discover and create new knowledge and art together with other youngsters.

The café located inside the museum, offers outstanding art and design, and a premier dining experience.

Settled in the King’s Garden in the heart of Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, this is a 400 years old castle, that was built by Christian IV in the early 17th century.

The crown jewels primarily consist of a diamond set, a ruby set, a pearl set, and an emerald set – the emeralds being among the worlds finest.

Frederiksborg Palace

It is located in three islets in the Castle Lake in Hillerød, north of Copenhagen. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, it was built at the beginning of the 17th century by King Christian IV, in a Danish Renaissance style.

It houses an enormous amount of portraits, historical paintings and modern art.

A new exhibition shows the history of the museum and the castle with original sculptures and decorations from before the fire of 1859.
